To some people, teaching is described as a noble profession. Others go ahead to say that teaching is a calling. A teacher is ranked among the most important people in any human society. Students and entire societies are molded like the potter does by teachers. Because teaching is very important, the amount of emphasis put on the training of teachers is a lot.
Texas, like any other state or country has in place great measures to ensure the quality of its teacher training programs. Qualifications for one to become a teacher have been set. A person lacking these qualifications is seen to be unfit for classroom teaching. The reason these standards have been put in place is to ensure that the students are taught by qualified personnel and that the education they get is standardized. We focus now on the training and tests required for one to teach in Texas.
The first thing any person willing to become a teacher in Texas has to do is to obtain a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. All teachers besides those in health sciences and trade education must have the bachelor’s degree in order to become teachers. The training for those in health sciences and trade is conducted quite differently.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree, you will be required to undergo a teaching preparation program. All aspiring teachers must go through this program. No person is allowed beyond this point if they lack the university training required.
You will be able to proceed to the next step once you are done with the educator preparation tests. A retake of the preparation tests may be necessary for people who do not pass. Once you succeed, the next step is to take the teacher certification examinations. This is a compulsory test to be taken by all aspiring teachers in Texas and the whole of America. Verification to apply for a job is done once you pass these tests.
Once you are verified, the next thing you do is to apply for a job. Job application is done strictly through the state department of education. No applicant will be allowed to apply for any teaching job in Texas if they have not been successfully verified. Doing this makes sure that only qualified people get the teaching job in the state’s schools. Job application can be the last step in becoming a teacher for people that have been on the job.
This last step comes upon successful completion of the training and job application. This last step is only taken by the first time teaching job applicants. Fingerprinting of the applicant is this last step. The need for fingerprinting is a part of the teacher background check for any criminal activity.
